Salem Confirmation Program
The Confirmation program is for those students in 6th, 7th and 8th grade. It is led by Pastor Michael Thomas. We have other lay members who assist with these instructions as well. It is good for students to see how others in the faith community continue in their faith journey and relationship with God.
The Students are required to attend worship and participate in it as acolytes, ushers and lesson readers. They are also required to attend Sunday school classes, Wednesday night catechism classes, and participate in the youth choir which meets on Wednesday nights at 5:45pm. We are using the Here We Stand curriculum on Sunday morning at 9:45 am for the 6th, 7th and 8th grade Sunday school and the Applying Luther’s Catechism for the Wednesday nights confirmation class at 6:30 pm.
We start the Confirmation program each year in September. The Sunday School lessons teach them the stories of the Bible and how they can apply these teachings to their lives. The Wednesday night catechism classes teach them the basics of what we believe as Lutherans using Luther's Small Catechism.
The 9th grade confirmation students are required to continue their attendance in worship and participate as acolytes, ushers, and lesson readers. They will work on a confirmation project and write a paper on their faith journey so far and their relationship with God using what they have learned in the Sunday School and Confirmation classes. Those students who complete these classes, reaffirm their baptism on Reformation Sunday in the fall of their 9th grade year.
